Sheppey Shadows

A new audio drama for Icon Theatre, co-created with young people aged 7-14

It was an ordinary week on the usually sleepy Isle of Sheppey… until the shadows appeared.

Sheppey Shadows is a 55-minute audio drama commissioned by Icon Theatre, co-created with and performed by primary school pupils, and a youth theatre, on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent. Devised through a series of weekly workshops, students were guided in creating characters, choosing locations, scripting scenes and performing for audio.

The finished play features local young people performing alongside professional actors, and a soundtrack of 'found sounds' from around the island itself. It was premiered at a listening party on Sheerness Beach in summer 2022, and can now be heard in full play for free below!
